Dr. Henning VOSCHERAU, Former Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg / Former Member

and President of the Federal Council of Germany

Dr. Henning Voscherau was born in Hamburg in 1941. He completed his studies in Law and Economics with a doctorate degree in Law in 1969. From 1974 to 1988 he worked as an independent lawyer and notary. He joined the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) in 1966, was member of the Hamburg Parliament and Chairman of the SPD in Hamburg. From 1988 to 1997 he was First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. During this period Dr. Voscherau was member of the Federal Council of Germany (Bundesrat), between 1990 and 1991 he assumed the Presidency of the Bundesrat. Since 1990 he has been member of the Board of the SPD. In 1997 he resumed his own business as a lawyer and notary.
