Bernd ZIESEMER, Editor-in-Chief, Handelsblatt
Chief Editor of Germany’s leading economic and financial daily newspaper since January 2002, Mr Ziesemer joined the Handelsblatt Verlagsgruppe in 1985. He began as Foreign Policy Editor of the group’s business magazine, Wirtschaftswoche, becoming Political Editor in 1987. Positons at two of the group’s key overseas bureaux then followed, including Chief of the Moscow Bureau, Handelsblatt/Wirtschaftswoche, 1990–94 and Chief of the Tokyo Bureau, Wirtschaftswoche, 1994–97. In 1998 Mr Ziesemer became a Senior Writer at the magazine, before his appointment as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Handelsblatt in 1999. A graduate of the Hamburg Postgraduate School of Journalism, Mr Ziesemer also studied Political Science, Economics and Modern Chinese History in Hamburg and Cologne. He began his career in Journalism as Bonn Correspondent with the German news agency, DDP in 1982 and as Frankfurt Correspondent with the German economic and finance news agency, VWD. He speaks German, English, Russian, French and Japanese.
