Michael Behrendt, Chairman of the Executive Board, Hapag-Lloyd AG, Germany

Michael Behrendt was born in Hamburg in 1951. He studied law in Hamburg, ended his training at the Hanseatisches Oberlandesgericht (Higher Regional Court), and graduated by passing the “Assessor“ examination in 1984. During his studies, Michael Behrendt gained practical experience at various companies in the USA. After joining the legal department of VTG Vereinigte Tanklager und Transportmittel GmbH, he became head of tank farm sales in 1987, head of the tank farm division in 1990 and manager of VTG GmbH in 1994. In 1999, Michael Behrendt was appointed Executive Board Chairman of VTG-Lehnkering AG and Member of the Executive Board of Hapag- Lloyd AG. Since 2002, he has been Chairman of the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG. In 2004, Michael Behrendt was appointed to the TUI Executive Board. In 2005, with the acquisition of CP Ships, Michael Behrendt was appointed Chairman of their Board. In May 2006, Michael Behrendt was appointed ordinary member to the Executive Board of the TUI Group.
