Ole von Beust, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany
Ole von Beust was born in Hamburg in 1955.
He completed his studies in law in Hamburg in
1983 with the 2nd state examination in law. As of
1983 he has practised law as a self-employed
lawyer. In 1971, he joined the Christian Democratic
Union of Germany (CDU). In 1978, he was
elected to the Hamburg Parliament (Hamburgische
Bürgerschaft). At that time, he was the
youngest member of the Parliament. In 1992, he
became member of the board of the Hamburg
CDU and in 1993, he was elected as Chairman of
the CDU parliamentary group in the Hamburg
Parliament. Since 1998 von Beust is member of
the federal board of the CDU. Since October 2001
he has been First Mayor and President of the
Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
