Prof. Dr. h.c. mult. Meinhard von Gerkan, Managing Director, von Gerkan, Marg und Partner, Germany

Prof. Meinhard von Gerkan was born on January 3, 1935, in Riga, Latvia. In 1964, he obtained his degree at the Technical University of Brunswick, Germany, and since 1965 has been working as a freelance architect together with Volkwin Marg. During his career, Prof. Meinhard von Gerkan held guest professorships and honorary doctorate titles at numerous universities, e.g. in Germany, Japan, South Africa, USA and Taiwan. Besides receiving many awards for outstanding buildings, he and Volkwin Marg were successful in more than 390 national and international architectural competitions, incl. 190 first prizes. Among his most notable buildings are Berlin Central Station/ Lehrter Bahnhof, Stuttgart Airport, Hamburg Airport, International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Nanning, China, Lingang New Harbour City in Shanghai, Guangzhou Development Central Building, China.
