H.E. Ian Kemish AM, Ambassador of Australia to Germany
Mr. Kemish’s education at the University of
Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, included several
teaching appointments and culminated in an
International Relations and South East Asian
History BA degree. Thereafter he entered government
service in the Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade (DFAT) holding numerous responsible
positions as well as serving three years as
Counsellor and Deputy Ambassador at the
Australian Embassy in Vienna, Austria. In October
2003, Ian Kemish became an Awarded Member in
the General Division of the Order of Australia for
managing the Australian Government’s response
in the aftermath of the 2002 Bali bombings. In
December 2004, he was appointed First Assistant
Secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister
and Cabinet. Since April 2006, Mr. Kemish is the
Australian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of
Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
