Prof. Dr. Mario Monti, President, Bocconi University, Milan, Italy
Born in Varese in 1943, Mario Monti graduated
from Bocconi University and did graduate work at
Yale University. Prior to joining the European
Commission, where he for ten years served as
Commissioner in charge of Internal Market,
Financial Services and Taxation (1995-1999) and
then of Competition (1999-2004), he was professor
of Economics at Bocconi and then Rector.
Besides his current appointments as President of
Bocconi University and as Chairman of Bruegel,
the former president of SUERF is a member of the
Senior European Advisory Council of Moody’s, of
the Board of Directors of the Institute for International
Economics in Washington, D.C., of the
Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Meetings, of
the Trilateral Commission and of the Executive
Committee of Aspen Institute Italia, and regularly
contributes to the Corriere della Sera. Since 2005,
he is also an international advisor to Goldman
Sachs and member of the Research Advisory
Council of the Goldman Sachs Global Markets
Institute.
