Eberhard Sandschneider graduated from the Saar
University, Saarbrücken, in English Language and
Literature, Latin, History and Political Science. In
1986, he received his PhD at the Saar University,
and after his postdoctoral lecture qualification in
1993, he was offered chairs of political science by
the universities of Potsdam, Erlangen-Nuremberg
and Mainz. From Mainz, where he held a position
as professor for International Relations between
1995 and 1998, he moved to Berlin. In August
2003, he succeeded Karl Kaiser as Otto-Wolff-
Director of the Research Institute of the German
Council on Foreign Relations, and concurrently
holds a chair for Chinese Politics and International
Relations at Freie Universität Berlin. Sandschneider
published or edited 10 books and made numerous
contributions to academic publications
focusing on Chinese and East Asian politics and
international relations in Asia Pacific.
