Nikolaus W. Schües, Conference Chairman, former President, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Germany

Nikolaus W. Schües was born in Hamburg in 1936. After his apprenticeship in the shipping business in Hamburg, London, Dublin and New York, he joined the shipping company F. Laeisz in 1961. Since 1973, he is general partner of F. Laeisz. As of 1986, he has been a member of the Plenary Assembly of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. He was elected Vice-President in 1990 and President in 1996. After his presidency he was reelected as Vice-President in 2002. From 1997 to 2005, Mr. Schües served as Vice-President of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and in 2006 has been elected as member of the Senior Committee of DIHK.
