Lee Kuan Yew, Minister Mentor, Republic of Singapore (via satellite)

Lee Kuan Yew has been Minister Mentor for the Republic of Singapore since 2004. He was previously appointed Senior Minister in 1991, 1997, and 2001. Lee Kuan Yew won the general election to be Prime Minister eight times between 1959 and 1988. He began his political career in 1954 when he helped to found the People’s Action Party (PAP). Prior to this, he was Secretary-General and held this office, with the exception of a brief period in 1957, until 1992. Lee Kuan Yew holds many honorary awards including “The Most Esteemed Family Order“ which he received in 1990. Additionally, he received the “Most Honorable Order of the Crown of Johore“, First Class in 1984, Freedom of the City of London in 1982, and First Class Order of the Rising Sun from Japan in 1967.
