Baosteel Group Corp. was established in Shanghai, China in 1978. As one of the leading steelmakers in the world, Baosteel produces a wide range of high tech and high value-added steel products. In 2007 Baosteel turned out 28.6 million tons of steel, recording a total revenue of 31.2 billion US dollars (21.2 billion euros).
While diversifying moderately its business in some related areas, Baosteel concentrates on steel business as its core business, targeting 80 million ton production and world top 3 in steel industry by 2012. According to its strategy, Baosteel shall build itself into a world first class, well respected public company, boasting multiple fully owned intellectual properties and strong comprehensive competitiveness.
In its globalization endeavor, Baosteel has been exporting products to 86 countries and regions, and developed a sales and production network of over 20 overseas companies. In 1993, the European-African headquarters Baosteel Europe GmbH was set up in Hamburg, Germany, taking charge of Baosteel’s international business in Europe, Africa, Middle East and the CIS regions. In 2007, Baosteel Europe’s revenue grew up to 538 million euros.
