BASF SE - BASF in Greater China

BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, has been a committed partner to Greater China since 1885 and is one of the biggest foreign investors in China’s chemical industry. In 2007, BASF posted sales of €4.4 billion in China – around 8% of its total sales of almost €58 billion. The company currently has more than 6,000 employees in China. Between 2003 and 2007, BASF has invested around €1.5 billion in the country to establish a strong production, marketing, sales and technical service network. The largest project is BASF-YPC Co. Ltd, a $2.9 billion 50-50 joint venture with SINOPEC in Nanjing. Following the smooth and successful startup in 2005, SINOPEC and BASF now plan to invest a further $900 million in the expansion of the site. Recent key projects in the Shanghai region include production facilities for precursors for polyurethanes as well as a site for polyurethane specialties.
